Garden Center Manager

The Garden Center Manager will manage all aspects of the outdoor and indoor garden center including merchandising, plant care, ordering, training, and the achievement of company goals and directives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Provide customer service to all customers in all departments and fellow associates
  • Provide positive representation of Beaufort Ace Home Center
  • Work with customers to resolve complaints/problems and have Beaufort Ace Home Center’s best interest taken into consideration
  • Ensure all calls and pages are answered promptly, courteously, and effectively
  • Possess excellent product knowledge

Store Operations

  • Ensure a positive, professional, and safe work environment for all associates
  • Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stockroom, and outdoor merchandise areas
  • Visit competition to be familiar with what they are doing and selling
  • Instruct garden center employees on tasks to be completed, including communicating and planning tasks to be done

Inventory and Merchandising

  • Create and maintain an inviting garden center experience
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with outside vendors
  • Implement merchandising strategies to complement the product and store
  • Answer questions and provide advice on plant care and recommendations
  • Monitor stock and make suggestions for primary vendors weekly
  • Evaluate sales of products and assist with close-out strategies of non-selling products
  • Work within a set budget to provide the best offering of products for customers

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Previous garden center and customer service experience preferred
  • Exceptional people skills and the ability to maintain a customer and employee focused culture
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact with customers and employees of various socioeconomic levels, persons in a different company roles, vendors, guests, and Ace Corporate Representatives
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule of days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and be flexible for other special events such as weather occurrences, emergency situations, occasional unplanned illnesses or limited number of associates, mandatory meetings and other times as needed
  • Ability to stand for an extended period, walk, reach, climb, bend and lift 30 pounds
  • Job responsibilities may change based on current needs of the organization

Education and Experience

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and considerable experience in retail sales, Point of Sale, merchandising and customer service
  • Previous garden center experience is preferred
  • Previous purchasing knowledge is preferred
  • Forklift experience desired or we will train the right candidate

Minimum age requirement is 25 years old due to insurance coverage for driving company vehicles.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $34,000 to $44,000 yearly
